The skies above Lost Maples State Natural Area are deep and dark. Visibility is excellent, and we want to keep it that way. Using the guidelines set out by the DarkSky Association, the park has recently adopted the DarkSky Guidelines for outdoor lighting and is on its way to ensuring that all lighting in the park meets the IDA's standards. In addition, the staff of LMSNA, in conjunction with the Friends of Lost Maples, is applying for recognition as a Dark Sky Park. We strongly support the park's efforts to educate the public on this vital issue, including leading events, holding informational booths, and collaborating with DarkSky International and other like-minded organizations.
